Internet Dating: It’s a Digital Dating World After All by Charles Harmon
The other day we were sitting in a small coffee shop when I asked a friend if Internet dating was something she would consider as an alternative to being in single’s bars every other weekend. She gave me a funny look and raised her eyebrows at me. I knew her answer without her saying a word. She asked me if I would consider it. I said yes, which made her raise them even higher. She thought Internet Dating was for those who were really desperate and would try anything just to get a date. Not so. Many ordinary folks would like to give Internet dating a try.
I disagreed with her ideas about using the Internet for finding dates or love. In fact I thought it was a neat idea finding someone to date from checking out their interests and picture on my computer. Internet Dating has now become more socially acceptable than it was just a few short years ago. It has really taken off. The Internet has revolutionized the dating scene all over the world.
Now you hear radio, and even TV ads about dating sites. If they weren’t successful no one would spend the big bucks advertising on TV, and I mean the major channels where the cost to advertise is really high. Adults who want to find love or dates are into Internet dating. Singles who are tired of the traditional approach find it a much better alternative. Plus one can even be a lot more selective using the Internet compared to just meeting someone in person with no idea of their background or interests.
Unnecessary Annoyances Avoided
The predecessor to Internet dating was posting personal ads in newspapers. During that time period there was a heavy stigma attached to that practice. People assumed that anyone who did that sort of thing was: a) not attractive, b) desperate, or c) just plain crazy. Step into the present now that some time has passed, and technology has advanced, to produce numerous online dating sites. Though much more socially acceptable, Internet dating still manages to raise a few eyebrows and draw a few smart remarks. But like anything else, there will always be people who resist change or have closed minds. Nevertheless there are many benefits to online dating.
A Few Noteworthy Benefits
1) Safety – An exceptional benefit of Internet dating is being anonymous. No personal information in regards to contact details will be given out, unless you authorize it. This is a huge advantage, especially since there are many unknowns when dealing with someone you converse with via keyboard.
2) Security – If your online mate turns out to be a bust, or the person you are chatting with was not the way they led you to believe, you can drop them. If they persist, point them out to the sites’ webmaster, and zap, they’re gone. Since they don’t know how to find you, you’re on safe grounds.
3) It’s free – and who doesn’t like free? Most Internet dating sites allow you to sign up, log on, with no membership fee. Isn’t that cool? However, to really get things going there is usually a charge for the full information or service they provide.
4) Its cost effective – That’s compared to finding a date on your own and treating them out, maybe several times only to find you two are not compatible. With Internet dating, you can effectively date several people simultaneously, if you want, virtually, with less time, energy, money, and frustration. Isn’t that better than going at it one at a time?
The chances of finding that “special someone”, without risking much, is higher when you use Internet dating.
5) Wide range of choices – This can be a single’s heaven. There are tons of singles signed up and looking for love and you have a choice. There are numerous selections, prospects, and probably an excellent match there. In a singles bar, there is usually slim pickings’. Internet dating is usually the opposite and it’s a pleasure to look over all the various potential mates available. Need I say more? Sounds like an ideal situation to me. One most people would love. No more fruitless single’s bar hopping or trying to figure out where you’ll have to be to find that perfect mate or date.
6) No Fear of Rejection – Forget being coldly shut off or that big rejection. Isn’t that what we all fear the most, rejection? Internet Dating eliminates that fear. You make contact by e-mail or by chatting. If she/he rejects you, it would not be such an outright embarrassment.
7) Honesty is the best policy – Traditional dating involves trying something to wow your date. Putting your “best foot forward”, that’s the approach one normally uses. We often arm ourselves with killer lines that we try to deliver as smoothly as we see in the movies. It doesn’t work for everyone. Internet dating requires honesty from both parties. There isn’t much need for playing games with the other person. All it takes is the art of conversation.
Digital Dating Does Work
So if you’re tired of the usual singles approach or the hit and miss many times approach to finding love, why not consider the digital way to finding love online? More people are realizing the incredible benefits accompanying Internet dating. Satisfaction and the success rate is much higher with online dating. It has become a way for people all over the world to connect with each another. Just a few clicks of a button will do it. Internet dating may still raise some eyebrows, and threaten your social standing, but believe me it will be worth it and could easily change your life.
